Maybe Should Have Stopped a Little Sooner on the Glitter, but Whatever...

My sister-in-law Karen found this frame (I think at Goodwill) and I thought it was so cute.

It needed a few little paint touch-ups on the swirly metal flower stems and I decided to add some more color while I was it.

In hindsight, I maybe should have skipped the red dots on the frame and I probably should have used a finer grade of glitter, but I was in craft mode and ready to do the project, so just went on with it. I think it'll be cute in the baby's room.

It's Amazing What You Can Find at the Boy Store

I know Lowe's and all those other stores have lamps, and storage, and paint, and even drapes and pillows but, oh help. We all know they're really just boy stores with a few little foofed up spots here and there to make women think we'll actually have a good time in there. I sometimes think I'll positively keel over if I have to go through one more swishy door into one more fertilizer-y/wood-y/concrete-y smelling place to look at home improvement materials. And the DIY is far from over... 

That being said, lookie what I found! We were going down some random aisle of junk headed toward the door and I found fun-colored twine. Yay! For $1 a spool it was an easy plop into my hand and on to the counter. I might as well have been a bratty kid at the grocery store needing some candy to be happy.

Since every fun thing can be adapted to gift-wrapping, that's just how I used my first few pieces. My brother's littlest girl turns 1in a few days and her gifts have some twiney trim.

 

The Woman Who Lives There Would Be Named Annabelle...

I think this is one of my favorite finds ever. It's a heavy little doorknocker that seems just right for a half-hidden little cottage on a sunshiny country lane. The kind with climbing roses over the door where tea cakes are served on dainty china plates with cloth napkins and no one is ever out of spirit.

Our front door isn't really the place for such a whimsical little darling, so she's listed on Ebay this week.

Baby Questions for You - What's Your Opinion?

 

I've been busy registering for baby items, looking at website lists of "essentials", and trying to figure out what I really need for when Miss Baby arrives. If you're a Mom, if you babysit a lot, if you have young nieces and nephews, if you have a baby in your life and know their routine and likes and dislikes...would you please share your opinion?

What baby item or items would you consider essential? For instance, my brother and sister-in-law LOVE their Diaper Genie and consider it an absolute must. What items like that would you consider must-haves?

Is there a particular brand name item (for instance a certain model/brand of stroller, car seat, etc.) that you have used and simply love?

What items have you noticed look cute as gifts or on a baby registry but don't actually get used much?

A Month of Birthdays

March is a month happily crammed with birthdays for our family. Scott & I get to take part in four celebrations just in our immediate families - talk about constant happiness (and yummy desserts). I'm tangled up in ribbon and wrap and gift tags for 31 days and wouldn't have it any other way.

The gift inside this package was a pink and white gingham baby photo album for Scott's Mom. We promised to keep it filled with photos of the baby when she gets here. I used some big tags, a fabric-covered brad (I think by Amy Butler), and some different kinds of ribbon.

We have two nieces coming up the next two weeks - so more pink and fun is on the way!

Guess what?

We're having a girl!

She'll arrive in the heart of summer, so the theme of her room is bright and bouncy (with a side of sugary glitter). I've been gathering things up both for using in her room and as color inspiration.

I found the sparkly pink bunny yesterday at Hobby Lobby for 40% off. It's an Easter decoration, but it'll be perfect for some cuteness on a shelf. I want to paint some pictures, use all sorts of papers in different ways, re-do some old pieces of furniture....the list is long and growing and overflowing.

I'll keep you posted.

Winter on the Outside, Spring on the Inside

 

This is my fireplace re-do from Saturday afternoon. I couldn't bear to take down my polka dot heart from Valentine's or put away the pink sparkly heart-topped picks in the vases.

So I decided they could just hang out with the bunnies for another few weeks.

I think Pink Birdie approves.
