...til the day when I can afford rows of matching baskets in the (so far non-existent) linen closet, adorable little coordinating boxes and dividers to bring order to each drawer, and everything on every page at See Jane Work or Russell + Hazel.
Make-do storage is one of the things I do best. And make-do is pretty darn cute.*

I keep thinking if I add enough bright colors and whimsy touches around the house that maybe I can trick it into somehow arriving early - just for me.
Isn't that clear jar the coolest thing? It's my new best friend. Size = HUGE. It was a complete TJ Maxx/HomeGoods score a couple Saturdays ago for $15.

Doing the scrapbook paper project above the fireplace made me feel as though the creativity switch in my brain switched back to "on" after that area had been all dark and cobwebby for awhile. I gazed and gazed at the fireplace this weekend and still am just crazy in love with the results.
Having that project turn out so well made me unwrap a couple canvases I had stashed in my studio and get out some bright colored paints I bought awhile back. I did two big paintings this weekend and even experimented with Mod Podge for (brace yourselves) the first time ever.
I had been wishing for a big art piece with a teal/aqua bird in it, so I just got started and made my own. It got a little crazy down at the bottom, but whatever. It's all me.
On the second canvas I Mod Podged a house that was a little sign I had made to post on the front door at our Open House this fall.
When the Open House was over the little sign went in my "To Use/To Try" recipe/saved stuff/misc basket. I really wanted to display it, but couldn't figure out what kind of background it would look best against. I decided putting it in the middle of a painted background was the way to go.
I had forgotten just how much plain F * U * N it is to get out the paints and the glue and go to it - sink or swim. I'll show you another project tomorrow. I think I'm on a roll.
Finally, FINALLY had some time today to get my house un-wrecked from taking down all the Christmas displays. I've been like Kathy Bates in Fried Green Tomatoes...wanting to knock down walls to get me some light and air.
I was craving something big and bold and colorful over the fireplace. Since I don't happen to own any big fabulous colorful paintings or prints (at least not big enough for that monster space), I turned to my old friend...scrapbook paper. I picked my squares and arranged them on my work table and switched out a few and mixed them around a little and came up with a pattern I liked. I put a paper heart from Target's dollar bins in the middle.
It's not anything straight or perfect or even, but we're not real big on precision around here. If it's cute that's good enough for me. In a bit of a nod to symmetry I did actually have the yardstick in the room with me. I even used it (once or twice). My Dad would be so proud.
I added some Dollar Tree Valentine heart sticks and put candy hearts in one glass jar and those icy looking Christmas bulbs that remind me of candy in the other.
Yay! Bright, freshened up, much better. I love it.

My Christmas decorations are down but nothing bright and cheerful has taken their place yet. We're looking at a whole lotta bare and blah around which has to change. I'll keep you posted.
